Palm Beach FL Real Estate

The recent price fall has opened up a huge segment of Palm Beach homes to families earning an average income. Long considered a community for the well-to-do, "snowbirds" and retirees, Palm Beach is opening up more and more to the year-round median income earners, something that will, no doubt, bring more economic stability to the region.

The recent availability of homes has not hurt the luxury market any. Still hosting some of the country's most valuable real estate, Palm Beach hides a large number of estates behind graceful, waving palms and lush, beautifully landscaped vegetation. Exclusive country club communities are very popular here, with homes, clubhouses and golf courses that are the last word in upscale living.

Some of the reasons for the falling prices of Palm Beach real estate is, unfortunately, foreclosures. Palm Beach, like many other areas in the U.S., has its share of short sale and foreclosed properties. However, this need not be unfortunate for investors in Palm Beach homes. Foreclosures can mean that home buyers can save thousands of dollars and rapidly gain equity by making cosmetic improvements to the property they buy.

Palm Beach Beginnings

Palm Beach began as a shipwreck - the "Providencia", which proved providential for local settlers, who went to work planting the ship's cargo of coconuts in order to corner the market on the non-native plant in America. The descendents of these Havana-bred palms provided the name for the communities that were later founded where they once grew.

The man who put Palm Beach on the map is one Henry Morrison Flagler, industrialist and the owner of the Florida East Coast Railway. In the late 1800s, he saw the beauties of what would be Palm Beach property and began a long standing tradition of success for Palm Beach home owners by buying the land of the early homesteaders of the region for "any price", leaving many of them very well-to-do if not outright rich by the standards of the day.

This began the "gilded age" of Palm Beach, when Flagler's vision of the ultimate resort community was realized with his ultimate creation, the Royal Poinciana, which saw regular visits by the American elite and a near-constant round of entertaining. Amidst the whirl of gaiety, Palm Beach was incorporated in 1911.

Palm Beach Lifestyle

While the "gilded age" came to the end not long after Palm Beach's incorporation, the reputation of Palm Beach as a relaxed, leisure community was set in stone. For decades, it has enticed "snowbirds" out of the colder regions of the northern U.S. and Canada to enjoy the perpetual summer of southeastern Florida. Retirees can also be found in abundance here and, along with them, many amenities that are geared to their comfort and enjoyment, such as active living communities, ample recreational opportunities and easy access to bigger cities and airlines.

Worth Avenue is a famous strip of shops, restaurants, spas and salons that bring items, foods and personal wellness products and services from all over the world to Palm Beach. Boutiques and major stores are a feature of the Esplanade. County Road, Peruvian Avenue and Poinciana Way.

The Flagler Museum, Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Norton Museum of Art and Society of the Four Arts are only a few of the cultural features of Palm Beach. More history and culture can be experienced in the surrounding communities, only minutes away.
